the little things good memories are made of
Sapphomom's Musings

"Pass the chocolate
Make me tea
Lay out my jammies and run my bath
Read me poetry
Play with my hair"

This is one of her simpler entries, and my very favorite. It takes a great writer to choose the right details, to write so little and say so much. You should check all of her stuff out. She is a wonderfully sensual writer - sometimes sad, often frustrated, but so strong. And always intense. A lesbian roller coaster.

A Funny Thing Happened...
Internet Persona

"And then, somewhere, at some point when he was going off about how my bumper had already been the way it now is, I stared at him in exasperation. 'Look, you hit me,' I said.

The wheels turned in beady Jackass' head. (Ooh! That's a lovely mixed metaphor!) 'I don't know that,' he said. 'Maybe you backed into me.' The fucker looked downright proud of himself.

We all said things in anger that day."

Prepare to laugh. I call her "funny rich lady." She is both in comparison to me. Jessamyn is a sharp lady. She writes like a jack knife in the wind.

I'm not sure where that came from - it just sounded right: She's quick, sharp - and fun. This was the first entry I ever read by her and I actually, burst out laughing... Wait till you see the opening photo and her caption about Armed Legged Smiley Face Man. That's the other cool thing about Jessamyn - she apparently lugs her digicam with her everywhere, because there are new photos almost every time. Go see Jessamyn and have some fun.

Chucks
Iteration

This entry is about his new tennis shoes. His new tennis shoes are Converse Chuck Taylors, and he goes on and on about his old pairs, his new pairs, his love for the old canvas high tops that were the hippest before everyone started wearing these ugly space age things they wear now. I, too, am a Chucks-lover. I, too, had many pairs throughout high school.

I can't help it. I love this man. (Sniff, wiping tear.)

A Perfect Summer Day In February
San Francisco Stories

"I remember when I was a teenager and I decided to grow my hair long. My dad disapproved, and would force me to go see Anna. When I walked in, she'd say: 'He made you come in again?'

'Yup.'

'Come on in,' she'd say, sitting me down. 'I'll wave the scissors over your head.'

She'd take off a quarter inch, take the thirty bucks my dad gave me, and send me on my way. I loved her for it.

Nice slice-of-life writer with entries about living in San Francisco. I like this one a lot. It reminds me of my mom who is a short hairdresser with loyal clientele.

Hearing Voices

"'Who would do that?' she will probably ask me. Then: 'Would YOU do that?' And the truth, of course, is that I would.

I would tell everything. I would tell everything about me if I thought that someone cared enough to hear it.

I would tell it all because I need to tell it and because I am tired of holding it all in. I would tell it all because I want everyone to love me like they love their best friend, even though I know that is a totally retarded and naive idea. I would tell it all because I think words are like protons, and we are all nuclei, waiting to be split, to explode, to release our energy, to achieve all our potential to become the bright, shimmering, hot things we all are inside."

Here our hero tells us about his fascination with the online diary - a fascination I think we can all relate to though can't always explain to ourselves this well. Space Cadet tells of recent episodes in his real world life that intersect with his on-line self, which in his case, appear to be almost identical. Interesting exploration of this whole on-line journal world - why we do it, what real people in our lives might say if they knew.
