[ Jess ] This week's ReEntry editor is an admitedly weird, ambitiously wild woman-child from the depths of upstate New York, who's trying to sort through life in between part-time work, full-time college, and a psuedo-social life. Serving up really deep brain food  light on the angst and heavy on the soul, meet:

Jess
here. in my head...

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23

I like to think of myself as a vampiric journal reader. Each new entry in a journal is like a new vein, and the words are the blood flow. To me, a great journal is defined by its lifeforce; its spirit and pulse. And when you find a journal that really attracts you, it's like you're tapping into the writer's energy, which in turn can affect you deeply.

One of my favourite things to do is check the queues and the new additions to webrings and discover the newer journals out there. Being a relatively new journalist myself, I've known what it's like to have something to say and not many people around to read it. So here are three of my favourites  my "daily fixes." None have been around very long, but all are filled with enough blood and guts and thoughts to fill the appetite of even the most ravenous vampiric journal reader. Sink your teeth in, baby.

crying, laughing
one more face in the crowd

"...I don't just stand out before a big storm. I actually stand in the rain and look up at the sky. I can't resist the colour that the sky goes. That moody dark-yellowy-green..."

He's called himself a bloke and a freak, but when I think of Dom, the first two words that come to mind are "real" and "honest." Dom's journal is filled with unique glimpses into his daily life that are at times humourous, introspective, and revealling. Hailing from the UK, Dom's British slang and unique-to-England stories are sure to have you relating with a smile, or wishing you were there to see and hear it all for yourself.

I've gotten to know Dom personally over the months that I've been enchanted with his journal, and he's proven to be every bit the person he expresses to his readers and even more. Curious? Peek into the charmingly witty and blatantly honest pages of this engaging Englishman.

just kiss my cheek
nothing vicarious

"maybe I'll take a break from my building walls and just float around the tops of them, looking at my surroundings with an objective view..."

There is only one word I know of that even comes close to touching on Jes's journal...Intense. She seems to be writing from a different place  a higher level of existing and reality introduced to her readers through her emotional stories of pain, glory, and self-realization. Jes reaches down and digs her nails into your heart with a painful grip that manages to dismiss angst and attack raw honesty. There's some real evoking of the Muse here. Dive in and hold your breath. It's sink or swim, baby, and there's nothing vicarious...and everything precious.

all the little things
a more familiar place

"Life, love, happiness, friendship...like Depeche Mode said, 'Everything counts in large amounts'..."

Matt's journal is a youngin' around the journaling community, but his prolific thoughts and wise observations certainly don't go unnoticed. Matt re-lives his days and relays his thoughts with a sincerity and spirit that effectively showcases his talents as a writer. At times humourous, painful, ironic, and joyous, Matt's journal is an array of reflections on all of life's little triumphs and tragedies, and all the drama in-between. Emotions that cop-a-feel and get right under your skin  day to day.
