Diarists were one of the first groups to take advantage of the Webring system, which links sites in a chain and allows readers to travel through them. The unique arrangement helped foster the community spirit for which online diarists are known. Now that Yahoo! has taken over Webring, diarists have begin branching out to other providers of ring technology, such as RingSurf and have also begun setting up their own mechanisms to continue to make use of this community building concept.
