---------------------------------------------- QUESTIONS FREQUENTLY ASKED BY LIST SUBSCRIBERS ---------------------------------------------- (1) Question: I just subscribed to the list DIARY-L. How do I send mail to all the people in that mailing list? Answer: You send email to DIARY-L@hawaii.edu or if you are emailing from one of our uhunix systems, emailing to DIARY-L will suffice. Please note that requests (getting archives, unsubscribing, etc.) should be emailed to LISTPROC@HAWAII.EDU (or just LISTPROC if you are emailing from one of our uhunix systems) (2) Question: How can I retrieve old messages sent to the DIARY-L list? Answer: All messages sent to the list are saved into monthly archive files. You should have received instructions on how to fetch these archives after subscribing to any of our lists. The archive password is given in those instructions. Skip the /PutArchivePasswordhere if there is no archive password. Please note that each list has their own archive password (if any). To get a list of the archives available, send the following one-line message to listproc@hawaii.edu INDEX DIARY-L /PutArchivePasswordHere To fetch a specific archive file, send the following one-line message to listproc@hawaii.edu GET DIARY-L PutArchiveFileNameHere /PutArchivePasswordHere Assuming the list name is DIARY-L, you will get a message back that looks like this DIARY-L.941101(1 part, 826 bytes) DIARY-L.941201(1 part, 826 bytes) DIARY-L.950101(1 part, 826 bytes) DIARY-L.950201(1 part, 826 bytes) To fetch the archive in the second line from the above example, you would send the following one-line message to listproc@hawaii.edu GET DIARY-L DIARY-L.941201 /PutArchivePasswordHere (3) Question: How do I unsubscribe from the DIARY-L mailing list? Answer: Send the following one-line message to listproc@hawaii.edu UNSUBSCRIBE DIARY-L (4) Question: I'm going to go on vacation and I don't want to receive any mail from the DIARY-L list while I'm away. Do I have to unsubscribe from the list before I go on vacation and then resubscribe when I come back? Answer: Send the following one-line message to listproc@hawaii.edu SET DIARY-L MAIL POSTPONE Note that you have to do this for each list you are subscribed to. The POSTPONE option may not necessarily be available on list servers from other sites. To resume postponed list mail, send the following one-line message to listproc@hawaii.edu SET DIARY-L MAIL ACK or SET DIARY-L MAIL DIGEST if you were receiving digests instead of individual messages. (5) Question: I don't want people to know that I have subscribed to the list DIARY-L. How can I prevent others from seeing my name on the list of recipients? Answer: Send the following one-line message to listproc@hawaii.edu SET DIARY-L CONCEAL YES This will hide your name and email address when people issue the "REVIEW DIARY-L" command to listproc@hawaii.edu, but please note that if you send a message to the list, all subscribers will know that you are subscribed to the list.
