Burbs revived, relocated The new year continues to bring new life to various journal burbs themed communities of web diaries. Texas journaler Jason Tamez has revived Non-Pussies: "The few, the proud, the hand-coders," Tamez explains. "We're the people who painstakingly toil with bleeding fingers on clatterng keyboards, forsaking the easy path of the WYSIWYG editor for the honest, pure path of Notepad, Word and the like." The original burb spawned the creation of Meow! The Pussies Burb, for journalers who aren't embarassed to rely on WYSIWYG design programs. Meanwhile, More Than Corn, the burb for Midwest journals, has been adpoted by Minnesota diarist Vegan Muse. Diarists living in, from, or with some affection for Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, or Wisconsin are invited to . Finally, California journaler Jolene Baldwin has founded The 'Rents Burb, for diarists who are parents. The new burb is an alternative to Kansas journaler Shelly's Mommies and Daddies burb, which hadn't been updated in months. Baldwin also hosts Believe, for diarists with personal definitions of spirituality, and Highway 101, for diarists living in California. Diarist steps into motherhood California diarist Karen, author of the journal Thought Experiment, finally became a mother last Tuesday. Her son, dubbed "MegaTot 3K," arrived ten days later than estimated, and weighed in at nine pounds, and 21.5 inches long. Karen's husband, Pär, posted the news in her stead. Her pregnancy experience was well documented in her journal, and updates following her recovery are promised. New York e-scribes to bowl New York journaler Jen is organizing a bowling outing for diarists from the tri-state area. Participants will converge on Bowlmor, located at 110 University Place, on Sat., Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. In her announcement on 3WA, Jen requests anyone interested to post a message or contact her. Mischief later in the evening, she notes, remains a possibility. Triad of burbs relocate Three more 'burbs, or themed journal communities, have found new homes in recent weeks. Highway 101, a list of web journals "written from somewhere in California," was adopted by 27-year-old Jolene Baldwin of Folsom, Calif. Meow! The Pussies Burb a creatively named group of diarists who are unashamed of their reliance on drag-and-drop web design tools was adopted by 24-year-old Connecticut journaler Claire. And Snapshots, for "online journallers who include a new picture of ourselves with every entry," was adopted by New Jersey diarist (but Australia loyalist) Amanda Page. Diarist debuts multimedia disc Dutch diarist Rien has released the Reality Asylum 2000 CD, a participatory multimedia project months in the making. In addition to all Reality Asylum journal entries, photos, and sounds from the past year, the disc features a number of music tracks and the "epic" Voice Project mix "One continuous stream of trance tracks, mixed with no less than 40 messages from journallers, anonymous callers, freaks, cats, cyberpals, and other Voice Project participants," Rien explains. Rien had been soliciting reader contributions since last June, ultimately enlisting a toll-free voicemail service. Journalers contributing sounds used in the final mix ranging from poetry to rants to jokes include Molly Zero, Magdalene, Pauline, Rachel, Nancy, and Jen. The music, meanwhile, features trance artists Astral Matrix, Danny Tenaglia, Hong Kong Trash, Abundence, Brother Brown, David Alvarado, Lando Psycho, and Albion. All Voice Project contributors will receive complimentary copies of the CD, but others can order a copy online for $15. So far response to the release has been strong. Notes Rien: "Releasing a CD and finding a lot of people want it, is great. But the amount of time you have to spend on producing and packing them is shocking." |
